Freebie Friday: Race to the Basket!

Yay! Friday is here and that means it is FREEBIE time for you!
I really do need to get better though at posting my Freebies a little bit earlier in the day....
Today marks the beginning of Spring break for my kids and I have a few fun things lined up for us to do, which include a trip to the Buffalo Museum of Science to check out the new Mummies Exhibit, a Spring Sunset Moonrise Hike, and maybe a trip to the movies and a trip to the zoo!
And of course, the little munchkin and I plan to spend time outdoors (weather permiiting) and inside working on some fun learning activities. (And I am thinking of some creative things for my teenage son as well!!)
I have been working on a few things for the munchkin. So, here is a  first peek at a quick little gameboard that I created for next week. I plan to use this in a few different ways to work on different skills!
Click here OR on the picture to get your free copy and then come back and tell me how you used this Easter gameboard.
I will be posting about how we use this gameboard next week so be sure to come back and visit!

Freebie Friday: Two FREE things for you to check out today!

Alright, it's that time again! It's Friday and time for a Freebie! And today is extra awesome because not only do I have a freebie for you from my own creation, I want to share a new app that I discovered, which is FREE on iTunes.
I am sure everyone has heard of Rosetta Stone, right? Well, did you know there is now a new and FREE Rosetta Stone App for Kids?
I don't remember how I came across it... I believe it was a Facebook ad. It's called Rosetta Stone Kids: Lingo Letter Sounds.
It is a fun interactive app where the Gogo Lingos talk to you and they can hear you too when you speak into the microphone.
There are two activities in this app.
One is a Letter & Sound Matching Game and the other is a listening and speaking game, where you can hear a phrase in Spanish and then repeat it.
The Listening and Speaking Game is our favorite:
If you repeat the phrase in a similar way in which they say it, the little Gogo Lingos will start dancing!
It is very cute!!
We love it!
The other game is a Letter & Sound Matching Game:
Click on the App Photo to check it out for yourself. It's FREE on iTunes!

And I just found another FREE one that we are going to try out:
Rosetta Stone Kids: Lingo Word Builder
Lots of Spanish Learning FUN!
(*This review and the opinions about these apps are my own and I was not asked or paid to promote these products.)
And now to my FREEBIE for you!
I am getting ready to start Journal writing with the little munchkin because she has been bringing home drawings from school and tells me lengthy stories about the pictures. So, it is time to document this!
I haven't decided whether I want to just print off journal pages or get a little notebook and let her decorate it. So, I just created a quick journal template just in case I decide to print off pages as we go. And it's yours FREE today!
I have included two different formats; one without lines and one with lines. ENJOY!

Freebie Friday!

   It's Freebie Friday!
This week, I am also linking up my Freebie at Teaching Blog Addict!
The little munchkin has been continuing to chug along and learn her sight words. And even after she receives a new set at school, I make sure to always make fun games/activities for her to practice and retain the sight words that she has already learned,
I created this quick little Tweetin' Sight Words Activity for her this week

That's all I have for today... I have a busy weekend ahead of me and lots more to share next week!!

Freebie Friday...again?!

I can't believe it is Friday again! I mean, I know it is a wonderful thing, but wow... my week went by fast! Even with the mid-week  blizzard, the week still flew right past me.
Anyhow,  thank goodness it is Friday!
This week I laid low because I wore myself thin with the little munchkin's party so I didn't have the energy to create any new learning materials, activities or games.
She did bring home another set of sight words this week and I quickly made a Sight Word Search Coloring Mat with the Wizard of Oz theme, since we are still hype on the Wizard of Oz.

On Tuesday, we had a nice, very Spring-like day and then, on Wednesday, we  got dumped with more snow as a blizzard passed through.I swear, Mother Nature cannot make up her mind!)  So, the little munchkin has ANOTHER Snow Day. That's like #6 this winter!
We played all of her fun board games she recieved for her birthday and caught up on reading some of the books we borrowed from the library almost two weeks ago. And I pulled out my Lakeshore Sorting Sounds Mats out of one of my zillion teacher boxes, so she could work on sorting sounds.
And then she worked some fine motor skills and did a Beginning Sound cut & paste activity that I created.
And that is your FREEBIE today!!

Click here or on the picture to download one for yourself!
(I am currently working on making this set for the entire alphabet, so the freebie is just a little sample)
Enjoy!
I am crossing my fngers (and praying too) that this last snowfall we had this week is the last of it!
The 1st day of Spring is around the corner and I want it to start feeling like it!

"AT" Word Family Fun... and a FREEBIE!

So last week, I decided that I wanted to do a little bit of Word Family work. Seeing as the munchkin is learning so many new things lately, I wanted to keep it fairly simple. Sometime over the summer, I came across a post written by Marsha over at A Differentiated Kindergarten.  I  loved what I saw and because she had created such a wonderful product that catered to different learning and ability levels, I had to have it. It is full of so many fun learning activities to use!
I found it to be a great way to introduce the concept of word families to my little one. Especially since she has mastered almost all of her beginning sounds and is catching on fast with learning sight words. Learning word families will allow her to see patterns in words and will help her later as she starts to read more and it will help her to decode words.
First I introduced the words in the "AT"  word family to her and displayed these cute picture cards.
She had fun playing teacher and pointing to each word as she said each one!
Once it was obvious that she was making the picture/word connection (just by looking at the picture alone), I took it to a slightly higher level and we did some work with matching the words to the pictures.
I printed out the sheet with the words and used it as a mat. She then matched each picture card to the words on the mat and covered up the word with the picture card.
Here is another fun one she did to match the picture and word.
And she got some spelling and writing practice in as well, although here, it looked like she was attempting to write in cursive!
All of these fun learning activities plus lots more are all in Marsha's AT Word Work Packet.
As we did work with the "AT"  word family, I found myself wanting to make a little
display for her to refer back to. And when I saw this idea--because I love the concept of a family and a house-[ I had to implement it! (And I did so using different clip art, for sake of picture variety)
That is the big one that we did.
I created a smaller version for individual student use!
And this is the FREEBIE that I have for you this week!
Click on the picture to pick up your copy.
It includes two different sheets (one with words and one without words), for different ability levels.
Sorry I too so long in showing you what the weekly FREEBIE was....
I had to tell you all about Marsha's differentiated packet first!
We will continue to do some more fun work with the -AT  Word Family, as we engage in Dr. Seuss fun and do some rhyming word activites in the next few days!

Do You Have A Green Thumb?? Plus an Earth Day Freebie!!

Before I start talking about how I began some Earth Day fun with my little one, here is a little FREEBIE (Earth Day Numbers Book) in celebration of Earth Day!

Click the picture below to get yours now!

This weekend, I spent some time in my backyard. The house that we are renting has a garden bed that wraps around maybe half of the house, and it needs  A LOT of work!!  But because I have no clue on how to garden or how to even begin a garden, I can’t do a thing about it!
So all morning, I got to thinking that MAYBE I can attempt to try it out and see if I might have a Green Thumb! Ever since we moved out of Chicago and inner city life and into suburbia here in Western New York, I have taken an interest in lots of new things- such as scrapbooking, crafting, blogging and now maybe I can take a stab at gardening!  It can’t hurt, right?
I have nowhere to start, so I decided since Earth Day is tomorrow, I can start really small and simple!  Since we are beginning to see flowers sprout up, I thought my daughter might enjoy planting a flower in a small flower pot. So this weekend, I took a trip to my favorite place Michaels- and picked up a few things for my munchkin and I.
Her favorite colors are purple and pink, so she HAD to have those colors. And when we found pink and purple acrylic paint with glitter, she was over the moon! She wanted to get started right away!
But we had to stop at Lowes to pick up some flowers to plant in our pots, because again, we are starting small and simple! (We are also going to plant some seeds in a bigger flower pot next weekend)
And here is my eager artist and learner, excited to start painting!
Here is her finished pot (I actually needed to add like 2 more coats of paint after she was done) and her chosen flower: Geranium.
Planting (or repotting?) was a lot of fun for her, especially when she had to use her new princess gardening gloves!!
She meant serious business when she was patting down the dirt/plant inside the pot and daddy made sure he helped to give it some water.
She was so proud of her work!

Now let’s just hope that some more geraniums blossom!

And here is my chosen flower, African Daisy, repotted in a pink planter.

I also painted my own flower pot, but the African Daisy plant was much too big for it.
So I will have to find another plant or use this flower pot to plant some seeds!

So that is how I chose to begin some Earth Day fun with my little munchkin!
The funny thing is that she thinks that the flower is going to grow really big like a Lorax tree!!
Maybe one day I can plant a tree.maybe one day!!
Do you have a green thumb??
Can you share some tips and helpful advice on gardening for this clueless city girl???
